Become a WISER woman!

What does participation in the WISER project entail?

Apply Now! All 400 participants will be:

  • Followed through 6 menstrual cycles
  • Asked to participate in 6 clinic visits lasting from 30-90 minutes at the General Clinical Research Center (GCRC), on the University of Minnesota East Bank Campus, during particular stages of their menstrual cycle.

Half of the participants:

  • Will be asked to do an exercise training program 5 times weekly for 30 minutes each session at a fitness center for approximately 16 weeks. The amount of exercise is what the Surgeon General recommends for better health and well-being (Physical Activity and Health: A Report of the Surgeon General).
  • The other half of the subjects will participate in the study clinic visits, but will not do the exercise program.

The process used to place participants into groups will be random (like the flip of a coin). Once a participant is placed into the exercise or control group it will not be possible to change groups.
